SM*SH -Hanes' net income rose 32 percent to $48.1 million, or 49 cents per share for the quarter that ended April 2, up from $36.5 million, or 37 cents per share, in the same quarter last year.
Hanes improved margins by 60 basis points over last year, an impressive feat given the increase in its input costs. The company owes this success to initiatives made from 2006 to 2009, following its spinoff from Sara Lee (NYSE: SLE )
