Tax Day is Here

Monday is also the back tax deadline day for claiming a 2007 federal tax refund. To get the money, you must file your 2007 refund by midnight, April 18th. If you're mailing in a paper form, Omaha Post Offices won't be open late for you. Those locations are Boystown, Northwest, Papillion/La Vista and West Omaha. Sunday the "additional ounce rate" for first class letters went up from 17 cents to 20 cents.

The form is called the 4868 form, and through it you'll have until October 17th to file your taxes. "The big thing is there's no extension on the tax due. Post mark it today if at all possible. That avoids penalties and interest," Walters said.
Starting April 19th you'll only be able to file late returns for 2008 through 2010.
